О. В. Панкова's recent research has significantly advanced our understanding of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) and its underlying genetic mechanisms. Through comprehensive studies, they have elucidated key features of tumor spread through air spaces in NSCLC patients, identified 178 germline genetic variants associated with different premalignant lesions in the bronchial epithelium, and found that premalignant changes in the bronchial epithelium serve as prognostic factors for distant metastasis. Their work also sheds light on gene expression profiling of bronchial basal cell hyperplasia and squamous metaplasia, revealing distinct progression potentials between two types of lesions.
