Researcher Anne‐Marie Mérillat has made significant contributions to our understanding of sodium balance and salt-sensitive hypertension through studies on kidney-specific cap1/prss8-deficient mice. These findings suggest that alternative pathways, independent of aldosterone, maintain sodium homeostasis. Research also identified alterations in adrenal soluble epoxide hydrolase and polyunsaturated fatty acid pathways in gr+/− rats, which are accompanied by salt-sensitive hypertension. Additionally, studies on the role of epithelial sodium channel-mediated sodium transport revealed its independence from membrane-bound serine proteases like cap2/tmprss4. These discoveries have important implications for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying sodium balance and hypertension.
