Christian Davenport
University of Michigan–Ann Arbor
Christian Davenport's recent research focuses on the dynamics of state repression, exploring its consequences for individuals, societies, and political systems. Through studies such as "Against Polarization" and "The Death and Life of State Repression," Davenport examines how repressive regimes maintain control, with particular emphasis on the role of polarization in suppressing dissent. Additionally, Davenport's work "Tenure through Tyranny? Repression, Dissent, and Leader Removal in Africa and Latin America, 1990–2006" investigates the impact of state repression on regime stability and leader removal. These studies contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying state control and the limits of police power, shedding light on the complexities of authoritarian governance and its far-reaching consequences for individuals and societies worldwide.
