Ivica Tamaš has made significant contributions to various fields of microbiology and biochemistry through their recent research. Studies on decontamination methods using Allium cepa L. dry scales extracts have shown promise in reducing Salmonella Enterica spp. on shell eggs. Additionally, discoveries of novel copper-containing membrane monooxygenases (CUMMOS) from alkane-utilizing bacteria and benzene/naphthalene-degrading communities in an oil sands tailings pond highlight the importance of these microorganisms in environmental remediation. The sequencing of genomic data from Chthonomonas calidirosea, a newly identified member of the Armatimonadetes phylum, sheds light on bacterial diversity, while research on methanotrophy and gene function has provided insights into metabolic pathways and potential vaccine targets, including the Francisella tularensis strain Schu 4 genome.
