Joao Guimaraes

Radboud University Medical Center, Radboud University Nijmegen

Joao Guimaraes has made significant contributions to our understanding of the neural basis of brain structure, function, and cognition. Research highlights shared genetic influences on resting-state functional networks of the brain, revealing a complex interplay between genetic variants and longitudinal changes in brain structure across the lifespan. Additionally, findings demonstrate the importance of missing genetic links between general factors of brain resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging, cognition, and psychopathology. Guimaraes' work also sheds light on the influence of genetic predisposition for Alzheimer's disease on default mode network co-activation in young adults and explores the shared biology of cognitive traits determined by genetic overlap.
