Ömer Yurdakul's research has significantly advanced the field of coordination chemistry by synthesizing novel mixed ligand complexes of alkaline earth metal cations containing nicotinamide and diphenic acid, as well as with 1,10-phenanthroline and acesulfame. These findings have led to a better understanding of the structural properties and hydrogen adsorption capabilities of these complexes. Furthermore, Yurdakul's work has explored the synthesis and characterization of Mn(ii) and Co(ii) mixed-ligand coordination compounds with 3-aminopyridine and acesulfame, revealing potential biological applications. The research also sheds light on zwitterionic amino acids as precursors for nonmetal cation pentaborate salts, which could have significant implications for hydrogen storage capacities and novel metal complex templated polyoxoborate(s) structures. Overall, Yurdakul's contributions demonstrate the importance of mixed ligand complexes in understanding metal-ligand interactions, hydrogen adsorption, and potential biological applications, with far-reaching impacts on materials science and energy storage.
