O. Graesslin's research has made significant contributions to our understanding of infectious diseases and immunology. In the study on enterovirus RNA shedding in childbearing-aged women living in Central Africa, Graesslin et al. investigate the prevalence and implications of this phenomenon, highlighting the need for further research into the causes and consequences of enteroviral infections in vulnerable populations. Another key contribution is the finding that reduced HLA-G expression in Plasmodium falciparum-infected placentas is associated with increased natural killer cell activity, which may hold promise for developing new strategies to prevent malaria-related complications during pregnancy, particularly in resource-limited settings.
