Ollscoil na Gaillimhe – University of Galway
Patrick O'Leary has made significant contributions to various fields of organic chemistry, including synthesis methods, catalysis, and materials science. Research on novel versatile synthesis methods for amides, carbamates, and ureas, as well as the efficient use of methylmagnesium chloride in deprotonation reactions, have expanded the capabilities of organic chemists. Additionally, studies on norcaradiene-cycloheptatriene equilibria, azulenones, and catalysts for cyclopropanations, diels-Alder reactions, and allylic additions have provided valuable insights into chemical reactivity. The development of chiral tetrahydropyrimidinones, electrostatically immobilized metal catalysts, and enzymatic immobilization techniques has also advanced the understanding of asymmetric catalysis and materials synthesis. These findings hold significant relevance for the fields of chemistry and related industries, with potential applications in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science.
