Róisín Ní Mhuircheartaigh's research has significantly contributed to the understanding of pain modulation and anesthesia practices. Studies on opioid analgesia have shown that changes in functional connectivity within the hippocampus can impair nocebo effects, highlighting the importance of this brain region in pain processing. The author's work also examines the effectiveness of various anesthesia techniques, including ultrasound-guided blocks and propofol anesthesia, and their impact on pain modulation and consciousness. Furthermore, research on treatment expectation and ketamine's effects on glutamate levels has provided insights into drug efficacy.
