Roberto Santucci
University of Rome Tor Vergata
Roberto Santucci's research has significantly advanced our understanding of the multifunctional protein cytochrome c, a key player in cell apoptosis and disease. Studies have revealed the importance of cytochrome c's interaction with cardiolipin, a phospholipid component of mitochondria, in regulating apoptosis and oxidative stress in various diseases, including psoriasis and neurodegenerative disorders. Additionally, Santucci has explored the mechanisms of reductive nitrosylation and peroxynitrite detoxification by cytochrome c, shedding light on the role of cardiolipin in modulating these processes. This research has broader implications for understanding human diseases, such as cystic fibrosis and mitochondrial disorders, and may lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting cytochrome c's interactions with cardiolipin.
