Rosangela Maria de Araújo Soares has made significant contributions to the field of oral microbiology and immunology, focusing on Candida species in HIV-infected children. Recent studies highlight the influence of oral biofilm index, caries experience, and laboratory markers on Candida carriage in both infected and non-infected populations. Soares' research also explores synergistic interactions between antifungal agents and Candida albicans, as well as the effects of secretory leucocyte proteinase inhibitor (SLPI) on fungal biology. These findings have important implications for understanding disease progression, developing novel therapeutic strategies, and improving oral health outcomes in HIV-infected children, particularly those undergoing dialysis or experiencing dental caries.
